All.Can International is proud to be actively involved in a number of EU-funded research and innovation projects since 2023, reinforcing our commitment to improving the efficiency, equity, and quality of cancer care across Europe. The projects to date include smartCARE, CURTAIN, and 4P-Can. These initiatives allow us to contribute our expertise and multi-stakeholder perspective to advancing patient-centred solutions that make a real difference.
smartCARE: Empowering Survivors Through Digital Innovation (2023-2024)

All.Can was a partner in smartCARE, an EU-funded project aimed at improving communication between cancer survivors and their health and social care providers. The project developed a ‘Cancer Survivor Smart Card’, a digital tool designed to bridge information gaps and promote more seamless, coordinated care. By placing survivors at the centre of the solution, smartCARE fosters citizen empowerment and contributes to enhancing long-term quality of life after cancer.
All.Can contributed by engaging stakeholders, developing content, and integrating diverse perspectives from its global network to shape key project deliverables. All.Can also played a central role in collecting best practices and survivor-focused resources from its international members, providing feedback on prototype tools, and supporting dissemination to ensure stakeholder engagement and high-quality outputs.

4P-Can: Improving Cancer Prevention and Reducing Inequalities (2023-2027)

All.Can is also proud to participate in and contribute to the “Personalised CANcer Primary Prevention research through Citizen Participation and digitally enabled social innovation” (4P-CAN) is a four-year European-funded Horizon Cancer Mission project. It gathers 17 organisations from 11 countries, including EU and non-EU member states.
Within the 4P-CAN project, All.Can is responsible for the WP6 on multi-stakeholder co-creation of cancer primary prevention policy recommendations.
The main mission of 4P-CAN is to improve cancer prevention and reduce inequalities by promoting the adoption of innovative research activities involving European citizens.
The 4P-CAN project seeks to understand the complex system surrounding the citizen and how it increases the risk of cancer on three levels – macro (at the national level), meso (at the community level), and micro (at the individual level).
The 4P-CAN project follows the narrative of the European Code Against Cancer, implementing research, social sciences, and humanities with behavioural sciences to create personalised tools for the primary prevention of cancer.
4P-CAN tries to identify barriers to cancer primary prevention measures adoption by studying risk factors for cancer such as smoking, alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, excess body weight, HPV and HBV infections (preventable through vaccination) and environmental pollution. 4P-CAN aims to gather evidence around individual adherence to healthy behaviours in countries from Eastern Europe such as Romania, Bulgaria, the Republic of Moldova, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Ukraine.

CURTAIN: Boosting Cancer Literacy Across Europe (2025-2028)
The CURTAIN project aims to boost health literacy for cancer prevention and care across Europe. By providing accessible, easy-to-understand information, CURTAIN empowers citizens to make informed decisions about cancer prevention and screening, encourages patient involvement in treatment, and supports healthcare professionals in communicating more effectively.
CURTAIN focuses on reducing inequalities in cancer care by improving health literacy among the general public, patients, and medical professionals. This initiative contributes to the goals of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the EU4Health Programme, supporting efforts to foster better health and equity throughout the EU.
Expected outcomes include the development and launch of targeted projects that enhance understanding, accessibility, and engagement in cancer care across all sectors of the population.
As part of the CURTAIN project, All.Can leads Work Package 6 (WP6), which focuses on improving cancer literacy throughout Europe. Our work includes:
- Developing a Virtual Cancer Literacy Library, a user-friendly digital platform offering accessible, trustworthy resources for both the public and healthcare professionals.
- Co-creating policy recommendations to reduce cancer-related inequalities through improved understanding and awareness.
- Engaging with key stakeholders to ensure these initiatives are sustainable and widely adopted across healthcare systems.
CURTAIN is launching in September 2025. Its website will be available soon.
As a global multi-stakeholder network dedicated to improving cancer care efficiency, these projects align with All.Can’s objectives to generate, promote, and advocate for evidence-based, measurable improvements in cancer research, policy, and practice.
