All.Can Greece successfully organized a webinar titled “Assessing Health Status & the Quality of Healthcare Services – The Cancer Patients’ Perspective”, presenting the findings of a nationwide survey capturing the priorities of cancer patients in Greece, based on their needs and perspectives.

The webinar brought together a broad range of stakeholders, including representatives from Greek healthcare services, academia, the pharmaceutical sector, medical associations and cancer patients’ associations highlighting the growing importance of patient-centered approaches in healthcare.

The survey was conducted in 2025 by All.Can Greece in collaboration with the Laboratory of Health Economics at the University of Piraeus. The research was carried out by PhD candidate Konstantina Briola, who presented the findings under the scientific supervision of Professor Athanasios Vozikis.

In its first phase, the study identified key factors shaping cancer patients’ experiences through a comprehensive literature review. These included access to treatment, quality of life, availability of therapies, and other critical parameters. The research utilized PREMs (Patient-Reported Experience Measures) and PROMs (Patient-Reported Outcome Measures) tools.

During the second phase, conducted between October and December 2025, patients from across Greece were invited to assess their quality of life, evaluate the healthcare services received during treatment, share their experiences within the healthcare system, and highlight unmet needs.

The survey results revealed:

  • Significant positive associations between quality-of-life indicators and patient engagement and empowerment
  • Higher levels of patient participation and trust in healthcare services linked to improved perceived quality of life
  • A strong connection between self-perceived physical health and patients’ ability to actively manage their health and participate in decision-making
  • A notable impact of communication quality and perceived support on patients’ mental health
  • Greater patient empowerment associated with improved perceived health status
  • The added value of integrating PREMs and PROMs into healthcare evaluation to support the transition toward value-based, patient-centered healthcare systems

Overall, the finding showcase meaningful positive associations between Patient-Reported Experience Measures (PREMs) and Patient-Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs), encompassing both self-reported and standardized health outcomes.

The results reinforce the view that patient experience is a fundamental pillar of healthcare quality and should not be considered secondary to clinical indicators. Rather than representing separate dimensions, patient experience and health outcomes emerge as interrelated components of a unified quality framework.

Moreover, these findings highlight the importance of systematically measuring patient experience, as it can significantly contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of their potential benefits in health policy planning, optimization of resource allocation, and ultimately, the overall improvement of healthcare quality.
